One interesting feature of Coils is the possibility to automatically select the manifolds for the design of a coil. This feature is available for all the calculation modalities, but in direct expansion it’s not possible to design the distributor (or inlet manifold). It is possible to select it from the catalogue of Danfoss.
Coils implements an “Automatic calculation” of the manifolds, which respect the principle that the pressure drops of the manifolds should not affect the calculation. For this reason, the software calculate the fluid velocity of each manifold and it compares it with the fluid velocity inside the tubes. If the fluid velocity in the manifold is lower than the fluid velocity inside the tubes, then the pressure drops will be low enough that they will not affect the calculation, and the manifold will be selected as the best one.
